KCR announces Rs 50 lakh reward to Dipa Karmakar

Hyderabad, Aug 21 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister KChandrasekhar Rao today announced cash prize of Rs 50 lakh toDipa Karmakar, who finished fourth in women’s vault Gymnasticsevent at the Rio Olympics. "Exceptional performance by girls in the Rio Olympicsis inspiring. There is a need to encourage girls in all fieldsand entire nation should support them in their endeavour," KCRwas quoted as saying in a release from the Chief Minister’sOffice. In the Olympics, Dipa, from the north eastern state ofTripura, had ended up just outside a medal bracket with 15.066points after putting on a superb display in the eight-womanvault final held earlier this month. The Telangana government had yesterday decided to givecash reward of Rs 1 crore to grappler Sakshi Malik, who wonbronze at the quadrennial sports event. PTI VVK NRBRG
