JeM chief Masood Azhar being treated at Pak Army hospital: Report

Jaish-e-Mohammad chief, Masood Azhar, who is undergoing regular dialysis for renal failure is reportedly being treated at an army hospital in Pakistan, PTI reported.

“Recent reports indicate that Masood Azhar is now afflicted with renal failure and is under treatment and regular dialysis at the army hospital in Rawalpindi, the headquarters of the Pakistan Army,” PTI quoted a senior security official.

On March 1, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mahmood Qureshi in an interview with CNN said that the JeM founder is in Pakistan and keeping unwell. “He is in Pakistan, according to my information. He is unwell to the extent that he can’t leave his house, because he’s really unwell”, he said.

A close associate of Osama Bin Laden, Azhar was arrested in Jammu & Kashmir for preaching Jihad in 1994. In 1999, he was released by India in exchange for freeing the hijacked Indian Airlines aircraft IC-814.

In 2000, Jaish-e-Mohammad was formed and it carried out its first suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir in April 2000 by striking the Badami Bagh cantonment in Srinagar.

JeM carried out the attacked on the Pathankot airbase in January 2016, in which seven security personnel were killed. They claimed responsibility for 2016 Uri attack on the Indian Army along with the recent Pulwama attack, in which 40 CRPF soldiers were killed.
