Jayalalithaa acquitted by Karnataka HC in disproportionate assets case supporters celebrate

Chennai: A special bench of the Karnataka High Court acquitted former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case on Monday. The special high court bench headed by Justice CR Kumaraswamy pronounced the judgment. Celebrations were held outside the AIADMK office in Chennai as Jayalalithaa’s supporters danced and burst crackers. Meanwhile, lawyers also celebrated and expressed happiness over the acquittal of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister outside Karnataka High Court in Bengaluru. Sweets were also distributed AIADMK MPs in Parliament. Jayalalitha was last year sentenced to four years in jail in connection with the Rs. 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case. The court had also imposed a hefty fine of Rs. 100 crores on her.
