IPL 2019: What a win! Sam Curran’s hat-trick leads KXIP to a sensational victory

Date:

Kings XI Punjab’s costliest buy Sam Curran proved his worth on Monday. He took a hat-trick in the final over of a thriller as Kings XI Punjab defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs in Mohali.

Punjab was staring at defeat after 16 overs as Delhi needed 30 in 24 balls with seven wickets in hand. However, the tables turned when Delhi lost Rishabh Pant (39) and Chris Morris in two balls in the 17th over.

Mohammed Shami took 2 for 23 off 4 overs and Sam Curran completed the Delhi collapse by taking four wickets in 1.2 overs, including a hat-trick. Delhi lost their last seven wickets for 8 runs.

Delhi had a shaky start as they lost Prithvi Shaw on the very first ball of the innings. Shikhar Dhawan (30 off 25 balls) and skipper Shreyas Iyer (28 off 22 balls) added 61 for the second wicket to set a platform.

Pant muscled a couple of sixes during 39 off 26 balls as Ingram made 38 off 29 balls to stitch a partnership of 62 runs.

The match looked well in Delhi’s favour before Pant was bowled by Mohammed Shami. After that, it was Punjab’s show.

In a space of 9 deliveries, Capitals lost 4 wickets for only 4 runs. From 144 for 3, they were in a precarious position at 147 for 7.

Sam Curran took the key wicket of Colin Ingram before he got Harshal Patel off the final ball of the over. Hanuma Vihari was dismissed by Shami.

DC needed 15 off the final over with 2 wickets and Curran picked up both of 2 balls to record the first hat-trick of this season.
