iPhone SE 2 to be launched at WWDC 2018 with updated specifications, unchanged design

Date:

The smaller version of iPhone, which was launched in March 2016, has become a little old. Now fans of small screen iPhones are getting a bit antsy. Fans of iPhone SE have a good news, Apple is now working on a new version of the iPhone SE with updated internals that will launch at the company’s developer conference this summer.

For some time now, iPhone SE 2 rumours have been circulating on the internet. According to a report by Chinese website QQ the new iPhone SE will be powered by Apple’s A10 processor- which was last seen in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus- is installed with 2GB RAM and 32/128GB of internal storage.

The report also states that the smartphone’s screen size will be increased from 4-inches to 4.2-inches, which seems a bit of an insignificant change. It further stated that Apple is planning to leave the iPhone SE’s design more or less intact. This means the iPhone 5S design will live on for a few more years. As per the report, the iPhone SE’s successor will inherit the Touch ID sensor rather than including iPhone X’s future forward Face ID technology.

Earlier, KGI analyst Ming-chi Kuo said that the second generation iPhone SE will be a highly incremental update with just a specification bump and minimal design changes. Previous reports suggested that the upcoming iPhone SE 2 is being manufactured in India by Wistron – the same company which started assembling the current generation iPhone SE in Bengaluru in 2017.

Many claim that the decision to go ahead with a second generation iPhone SE has a lot to do with the smartphone’s success in India – especially after it got a price cut as a result of being assembled locally – as well as Apple’s efforts to double its market share in developing countries like India and China.
