New Delhi: India has significantly managed to elevate its passport ranking, soaring up by five positions from the previous year, now stands at 80th spot in the prestigious Henley Passport Index.
This notable improvement translates into enhanced travel opportunities for Indian citizens, granting them visa-free access or visas on arrival to a total of 57 destinations across the globe.
However, Indian passport holders still require visas to enter a substantial number of destinations, totalling 177 countries, including prominent ones like the US, UK, China, Japan, Russia and the entire European Union.
Meanwhile, Singapore has dethroned Japan to claim the title of the world’s most powerful passport. Singaporean passport holders now enjoy visa-free entry to 192 global destinations, The latest Henley Passport Index revealed.
After reigning at the top for a remarkable five years, Japan has dropped to the third position due to a decrease in the number of visa-free destinations for its passport holders.
The United States, which once dominated the ranking nearly a decade ago, experienced a setback, sliding two places to occupy the eighth position. On the other hand, the UK, following a period of uncertainty induced by Brexit, witnessed a resurgence by climbing two places to secure the fourth position—a position it last held in 2017.
