Date:

A video has surfaced on the internet in which trees are being chopped down and it is being claimed that the Indian government is destroying Apple gardens of local Kashmiris following the scrapping of Article 370.

The caption in Urdu stated that after revoking the special status from Jammu and Kashmir, “the government has started the atrocities of innocent Kashmiri gardens.”

At the time of filing this report, the above tweet was re-tweeted by over 2,000 people.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the above video, we found that the claim attached to the video is false as the video is from Himachal Pradesh and not Kashmir

We processed the video through InVid and extracted some of the keyframes. On putting those keyframes through Reverse Image Search, we came across the extended version of the same video dated July 6th, 2018 on YouTube channel Himachal Watcher.

The description of the video read:  “A video of the ongoing slaughter of fruit-laden apple trees under the High Court mandated drive to free forest land from encroachers. Thousands of trees have already been felled and a large number of them are to felled under this drive. While it is an appreciable move to free encroached land, the disappearance of thousands of trees in a short period doesn’t sound to be an appropriate move considering the impact on ecology.”

Hence, the above information proves that the short version of the video has resurfaced on the internet with FAKE claims.
