Helicopter crashes in Mumbai; one killed, 3 injured

Mumbai: A helicopter caught fired after it crashed in the jungles of Aarey Colony in Goregaon (East) in Mumbai on Sunday morning, killing one person and injuring three others.

The chopper crashed in an open ground in Aarey Colony, a green belt in suburban Goregaon, a Fire Brigade official said.

Four persons, all occupants of the chopper, suffered burns and were rushed to a hospital where one of them succumbed to injuries, said DCP (Zone 12) Kirankumar Chavan.

Three fire engines were rushed to the spot and the blaze has been contained, the Fire Brigade official added.

Local residents alerted police and Fire Brigade after they spotted smoke billowing from the crash site.

“We saw smoke in our area at around 11:45 AM and realised something untoward has happened,” an eyewitness said.

According to the fire brigade executives, the incident occurred around 12:15 pm near at Jambli maidan, Filter pada, near Stable no. 21 & 22.

“Three fire engines and ambulances were rushed to the spot as soon as we are informed about the mishap. The fire has been doused,” said a fire brigade official.

“We are investigating how the mishap took place,” he added.

The 1992 made chopper ‘Robinson R44‘, was basically with Pawan Hans, was later sold to a private aviation organisation.
