Heavy showers lowers the pace of capital

Date:

New Delhi: The monsoon is in full swing and the monsoon preparation by Delhi authorities has just exposed.

Heavy showers since Wednesday night led to massive water-logging on the city roads on Thursday morning. Southern and eastern parts of Delhi seem to be the worst affected areas as roads were submerged in knee-deep water.

According to commuters, major traffic jams were reported from Sardar Patel Marg, Dhaula Kuan, NH-8, Delhi cantonment, Mahipalpur-Badarpur road, Ring Road, IIT-flyover, South extension, Ashram crossing in south Delhi. Commuters going to the airport were stuck in heavy traffic jams due to heavy waterlogging at the underpass leading to the terminals.

Traffic jams were also reported from Dwarka after several traffic signals went offline due to seepage of water into the systems.

An advisory has also been issued to commuters travelling through Desh Bandhu Gupta road where traffic snarls have been reported from at least ten points. Anand Parbat-Karol Bagh stretch, too, has slow moving traffic.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic was reported at the Vikas Marg and IP extension Marg near Mayur Vihar as the dug up roads added to the woes of the commuters.

Residents have reported that some of the roads were completely choked as several vehicles broke down on the flooded roads.

Vikas Marg, ITO, Pragati Maidan and Delhi Gate also faced snarls due to water logging on the Mathura Road. Vehicles heading to central Delhi from Kashmere gate too were cemented due to water logging near Chungi underpass.
