Uttarakhand vendors are openly selling plastic rice in Haldwani district, according to the reports, the Pal family of Halwdani bought rice from a confectionery and found a variation in the taste of rice. The matter came to light when a video of children playing with a ball made up of plastic rice went viral. It cannot be identified when it is raw but after cooking, a sheet is formed turning hazardously thick and hard.

District authorities said that strict action will be taken against the culprits, the matter is currently being investigated. Previously, a case against artificial foods like plastic rice as well as plastic eggs also came to light after people filed complaints in Kolkata. Doctors and experts have warned that regular consumption of plastic rice can lead to hormonal imbalance, digestion, absorption problems, birth defects and even cancer.
