Gadgets to look out for in 2015

Date:

2015 is being touted as the big year for wearable tech, but that is not the only realm of technology that the next year has high hopes from. We bring to you some of the best gadgets to look forward to next year.

Thingsee One: A Kick-starter campaign by the Finland-based company Haltian Ltd, Thingsee One is an open source hardware solution for the Internet of Things. It enables firms and consumers to collect and monitor data in micro environments. From parents who want to keep track of their children’s driving habits to firms developing new data, this gadget is going to be revolutionary, to say the least.  It uses 2G radio to connect to other devices and has a battery life of up to one year, which is what sets it a league apart.

Apple Watch: Easily the most anticipated gadget for 2015, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the release of the new smart watch on 9th September this year. The watch is compatible with iOS 8 and other Apple devices, besides being able to track the user’s health, receive messages, and act as a viewfinder for the iPhone camera. The watch will be available in three different models, with prices starting from $349. The device is expected to hit stores in the first quarter of 2015, although no confirmation has been received yet.

Google Glass: Google Glass, the pioneer of wearable tech, is speculated to have a general consumer release in 2015.Google Glass can be used to take pictures and record videos, and will have a touchpad located at the side of the Glass, enabling users to control the device using a timeline-like interface. Along with new apps designed specifically for Glass, existing Google apps such as Gmail, Google +, Google Maps, will be available for use.  Google initially sold the gadget to 8,000 “Glass Explorers” in March 2013, and later welcomed a larger participation in the beta testing via Google Plus Page in May 2014.

Sekonix DLP Pico Keychain Projector: Touted to be the world’s smallest projector, this projector is ideal for those on the move. Turn your dorm room into a movie hall, or make your business presentations in the cafeteria, this projector makes life easier for most of us. The projector can be connected to a computer, mobile phone, or tablet and gives the same image quality as that of a projector connected to a DVD player. The projector was supposed to be launched in 2014, but it is now expected to be made available in stores in 2015 only.

IBM’s 12-Atom Memory Storage: Currently, storing one bit of data requires approximately 1 million magnetically charged atoms. In 2012, IBM successfully developed technology to reduce that number to only 12 atoms. This implies a hundred times higher data storage density. Although IBM’s success is still confined to the lab, it has made clear that it intends to bring this technology to the consumer market soon, with industry experts predicting a launch in late 2015.
