Future of smartphone looks bright

Date:

2014 unleashed some ground breaking smartphones with innovations from Apple, Android and even Microsoft.

Home-grown smartphone brands were equally competitive with the big brands and right behind in the queue of highest selling models, rather moved ahead in the line in as compared to some really established foreign handset brands in the country.

Indian smartphone manufacturers like Micromax, Karbonn and Lava had acquired a position among the top five players which include Samsung and Nokia.

Micromax emerged as the overall leading mobile phone supplier in India in Q2 2014, surpassing Samsung by capturing 17% of the mobile market – smartphones and feature phones combined.

2014 saw a variety of smartphones, with advance features and dynamic innovations not only from the new entrants but from the long established brands in the industry.

This includes Samsung, a Korean giant coming up with a slight curved screen, making the content readability better, Oppo, a chinese smartphone company came up with a 206 degree rotating angle camera, Apple at the same time entered the world of larger screens, Samsung launched its galaxy alpha with a metal frame and all these with improved battery life and display.

All these innovations have led to a market share growth of 27%. The market share growth can also be contributed to affordable pricing smartphones launched in ample numbers. The best of the budget phones were seen coming up in the year.

Smartphones in 2015 will be equipped with cutting edge technology and better battery life. A California based company is already working towards improving the battery efficiency of the smartphones through hardware and software enhancements.

In the first month of the year we have seen the flagship model of Google’s Nexus 6, with turbo charger, which can be called successful to an extent.

One example that we have seen in 2014 is the Oppo Find 7 which gets charged from 0% to 75% battery life in just 30 minutes, which is significantly less as compared to other competitors.

Interestingly, the biggest chipset maker Qualcomm will also venture in the smartphone market and is expected to bring the super phone of 2015.

The possible specifications such as Snapdragon 810 chipset, a whopping 4GB RAM, 6 inch Quad- HD display and a 3100mAh battery will be enough to outshine possibly all other counterparts.

Google’s much talked Project ‘Ara’ will also unveil its first modular smartphone that can bring a new change in the smartphone technology with its upgradable hardware parts.

This attempt can open the gates for a whole new market of removable hardware modules that can make your smartphone ready to fight with their successors in a cost effective manner.
