Emojis may soon impersonate you

Date:

New York: Emoticons have helped us express our feeling through electronic text for years. An now, Unicode Consortium, the group responsible for coordinating emoji design, has proposed a plan wherein five skin tones would be added to emojis.

Unicode Consortium said that people want emojis to reflect more human diversity and especially the skin tone.

The group announced it will change the colour palate for the currently yellowish pictographs that get pasted in emails, text messages and other social posts.

If the design is approved, Unicode’s upcoming version 8.0 would come with the new feature. The new version is expected to be released next year.

Users would be able to change the skin tones of human emoji characters.

The projected skin tones are based on five of the six categories found in the Fitzpatrick Classification scale founded by dermatologist Thomas Fitzpatrick in 1975 at Harvard Medical School.
