‘Draupadi of Rampur is being disrobed’: Sushma Swaraj to Mulayam Singh on Azam Khan’s ‘khaki underwear’ remark

Date:

Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, condemning the controversial remark by Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan allegedly against his BJP rival Jaya Prada, on Monday urged the party’s patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav ‘not to stay silent at the disrobing of the Draupadi of Rampur’.

Taking to Twitter, Swaraj drew the attention of Mulayam Singh Yadav to Khan’s outrageous comment.

“Mulayam bhai, you are the patriarch of the Samajwadi Party. The Draupadi of Rampur is being disrobed in front of you. Don’t make the mistake of staying silent like Bhishma,” the foreign minister tweeted.

While addressing an election rally on Sunday in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur constituency, Azam Khan said, “I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underwear.”

The police have lodged an FIR against Khan for his objectionable ‘khaki underwear’ comment against actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada.

Khan on Monday, however, clarified that he did not make any objectionable remarks against Jaya Prada. “I will not contest the polls if proven guilty…I haven’t named or insulted anyone and I know what I should say,” Khan said.

On the other hand, BJP candidate Jaya Prada said, “He shouldn’t be allowed to contest elections. Because if this man wins, what will happen to democracy? There’ll be no place for women in society. Where will we go? Should I die, then you’ll be satisfied? You think that I’ll get scared & leave Rampur? But I won’t leave.”

Khan is contesting the Lok Sabha election on the SP ticket against his one-time arch-rival Jaya Prada (BJP) from the Rampur constituency in western UP.
