Delhi gurudwaras to use biogas for preparation of langar food

Date:

After Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee in Amritsar took to setting an example for preserving the environment through solar rooftops, The Delhi Gurudwara Management Committee has also pledged to do something for the environment. The members of the committee have jointly planned to use biogas plants within the gurudwara complexes within the city.

In the gurudwara, daily on an average, almost 30,000 devotees eat the langar, just in Delhi. However, for so many people, a lot of gas is required daily to prepare the food which not prove economical.

Biogas energy is healthy, environmental friendly, and pollution-free. It can also be recycled and re-used for various purposes. Every day, a huge amount of food is wasted and trashed such as vegetable and fruits peels, left-over vegetables, and other left-over food served in the langar. With the help of a biogas plant, however, the disposed waste can be recycled and re-used to create bio-energy which would be used to prepare the food.

The biogas plant would reduce pollution as well as cut down the kitchen management cost, thereby using it for sustainable purposes as well. The project will begin with the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib and Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, after which others will follow suit.
