Declined PM’s post in UF govt on son’s advise: Chandrababu

Hyderabad, Sep 10 (PTI) In 1990s when the Union Frontgovernment wanted him to take over as Prime Minister, TDPchief N Chandrababu Naidu let go the opportunity on the adviseof his son who told him that the PM’s post was "temporary". "My son (Lokesh, now Telugu Desam general secretary)told me the Prime Minister’s post is temporary but the ChiefMinister post is permanent. So, I did not accept the primeminister’s post," the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister toldreporters in an informal chat on the occasion of his 35thwedding anniversary today. Chandrababu had served as the convener of UnitedFront. It was in 1997 when the United Front government was inpower at the Centre that Chandrababu was chosen by the Frontleaders to be the Prime Minister. He was just two years old as Chief Minister of unitedAndhra Pradesh at that time but, given his party’s numericalstrength in Lok Sabha, played a key role in bringing variousparties together to forge the United Front.
