Cleaning up Cong mess says NaMo

Date:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday took potshots at Congress in parliament and said that his government is trying to address ‘old’ problems which it has inherited from the UPA government.

Modi was speaking on the motion of thanks to the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha. This was Modi’s first speech in parliament during the budget session.

Slamming Congress, the PM said, “Some people have said that the government is just changing names of old schemes. But the issue is not about names of schemes, the issue is about development.”

Taking a dig at Congress’s much talked MNREGA scheme Modi said, “I will ensure that MNREGA is never discontinued. It is the biggest example of your failings. After so many years of being in power, all you were able to deliver is for a poor man to dig ditches a few days a month. My political sense says never scrap MNREGA.”

Attacking Congress, the PM said, “The Congress never did so poorly ever before in history. You went to the people with your Land Act and lost. Not even during the Emergency did you do so badly. If you had to win because of your land act, then you would.”

Counting on his government’s plan to combat corruption, Modi said, “Corruption has ruined the nation and the nation should not discuss it through a political prism.”

“If we all join hands and decide we will combat corruption together, our nation can be corruption free,” Modi said further.

Discussing his government’s stand on Black Money, Modi in his speech said that people earlier were scared to talk about black money. The Modi government compelled the nation to talk about black money.

Attacking UPA government on black money issue, Modi said, the Supreme Court had asked for SIT to be formed but what happened for 3 years.

Meanwhile, our first decision in our first Cabinet meeting was the decision on SIT on black money, Modi further added.

Prime Minister also said, no one should think we are talking about black money because we are vindictive and no one will be spared in the black money probe.

Stressing the focus of its government on farmers, Modi said, we talk a lot about farmers, but shouldn’t we find ways to address issues of farmers.

Sharing his plan for farmers, Modi said, “Per drop, more crop” is what we want to focus on.”

Replying to opposition attack over his foreign tours, PM said, “It is the poor, the farmer, the tribal communities that are on my mind when I am travelling.”

“We brought in the system of self-attestation. Things may be small but they are things that inspire the trust of the people, Modi said backing his government’s decision for bringing self-attestation system.

Speaking about disputed Land Acquisition Ordinance, Prime Minister said, “If there is anything against farmers in the Land Acquisition Bill, the government is ready to change it”.

“Lot of discussion is going on the land acquisition issue. When the Act was made, we walked shoulder to shoulder with you,” PM told the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Taking a jibe at the opposition, the PM said, “We knew you were hurrying passage of the bill for political gains, yet we stood with you.”

“In an era of co-operative federalism, can we become arrogant? Should we not listen to the chief ministers of the states,” the PM asked.

Thanking opposition leaders, Modi said, “The debate has been very good. Many MPs expressed their thoughts and several MPs sent their views in writing as well.”
