Katra: At least 7 people including the pilot were killed on Monday when a chopper crashed near Katra in Jammu and Kashmir.
The pilot Chopper was ferrying the pilgrims to the Vaishno Devi temple. According to initial reports, the chopper crashed near the base camp of Katra. Following the crash, Katra-Vaishno Devi chopper service has been suspended sine die.
The helicopter belonged to the privately-run Himalayan Heli Services, which also runs choppers for the Chardham Yatra.
The chopper crashed and caught fire, ostensibly due to the fog, sources said. Several flights had been unable to land at the Jammu airport this morning due to the foggy weather.
