Charity song for Ebola tops UK charts

Date:

London:  The song composed to raise money for fight against Ebola has made it to the top at UK music charts. The charity single sold more than 312,000 copies last week, making it 2014’s fastest-selling single so far.

Singer Bob Geldof – who along with artists like Bono, boy band One Direction, Rita Ora and others recorded the song – thanked everyone via radio saying that he was “so proud” adding he didn’t expect “such vast and willing numbers” and that the song was also at number one in France with other versions number one in 61 countries.

The stars recorded the single as a part of charity supergroup Band Aid, which was founded in 1984 by Geldof, 63, and Midge Ure to raise money for anti-poverty efforts in Ethiopia by releasing the song ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’

The remaining of the UK top five consisted mainly of new entries including ‘Real Love from Clean Bandit FT Jess Glynne’ entering at number two, Olly Murs’ ‘Wrapped Up FT Travie McCoy’ at three, David Guetta at number five with ‘Dangerous FT Sam Martin’, while Ed Sheeran’s former number one ‘Thinking Out Loud’ dropped two places to number four.
