Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has ordered a CBI investigation in the Rampurhat, Birbhum incident that led to the killing of 8 people including women and children.
Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice R. Bharadwaj ordered CBI to submit a detailed report on the next date of hearing, which is April 7. It also directed the SIT to hand over the papers to CBI relating to the case.
The Special Investigation Team, which was investigating the case has arrested 21 people in connection to the incident. The preliminary reports submitted by the forensics revealed that women and children were thrashed and beaten before they were burned alive.
Earlier on Thursday, 9 states including West Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, withdrew general consent for a CBI-level investigation on the incident in Birbhum.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Rampurhat and extended financial aid to the families of the victims.
