Brisbane Airport locked down due to bomb threat; man arrested

Brisbane International Airport, one of Australia’s busiest airport was shut down after a man allegedly made a bomb threat and threatened a woman with a knife.

The 50-year-old man has been taken into custody by and the terminals were opened after two hours, once the clearance search was completed.

However, the terrorism was ruled out and the man was charged with domestic violence offences, stalking with a weapon, stealing and serious assault police.

“It is a domestic violence-related situation,” Queensland Police said.

The incident took place just before 9 pm on Saturday. The man allegedly pulled out a knife in the food court area and took a  metal object claiming it to be a bomb. He surrendered to the police after they fired non-lethal beanbag rounds at him.

The man, who is of Australian of Middle-East origin, was reportedly at the airport with his wife, mother-in-law and two children who were to catch a flight.
