BPO employee gang-raped inside moving van

Date:

It seems the government’s idea to put a full stop to rape is going futile and increasing the crime even more. In a heinous incident on Saturday night, a call centre employee was allegedly gang-raped by two men in South-East Bengaluru.

“A woman in her twenties, an employee with a call centre here, was gang-raped on the night of October 3 by two persons in South-East Bengaluru,” City Police Commissioner N S Megharikh said.

The woman, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, was waiting with a colleague for transport to return home at around 10 PM when the incident occurred, the police said.

According to Bangalore Mirror, the call centre employee was waiting for a BMTC bus on Hosur Main Road at the end of her 5.30 to 9.30 pm shift, and was offered a ride by two men in a Tempo Traveller. She climbed into the vehicle and moved to a seat in the back.

India Today reported one of the accused threatened the woman at knife point, while the other drove the vehicle towards Domlur, where she was raped in an isolated area. Following her ordeal, she was dropped back to the Madiwala area.

She immediately called up her friends, who arrived at the spot and took her to nearby St John’s Hospital, where doctors called police. The police said that they have recorded her statement.

The woman was discharged on Sunday, the police said, adding that a special team has been formed under Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Rohini Katoch Sepat to trace the duo.

CCTV footage at major traffic junctions in the locality was being examined to find out the vehicle, the police said.

The woman has described the accused as around 25 years old, one of whom has a dark complexion and the other is slightly fair and stout, adds the Bangalore Mirror report.

The Madiwala police has registered a case against the duo under sections 376 (D) (gangrape), 354 (A), (B) (sexual harassment), and 323 (punishment for hurt) of the IPC.
