Gurugram: The German carmaker BMW on Wednesday said that it has no plans to set up a manufacturing unit in Punjab, a day after CM Bhagwant Mann announced that the company had agreed to set up its auto parts manufacturing unit in the state.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Punjab government claimed that efforts of CM Bhagwant Mann to attract investment from Germany had bore fruits, and BMW “has agreed to set up its auto part manufacturing unit in the state.”

BMW Group issued a statement and added that “BMW India and BMW India Financial Services are 100 per cent subsidiaries of the BMW Group and are headquartered in Gurgaon,”.

The statement further added that “BMW Group India has no plans for setting up additional manufacturing operations in Punjab,”.

It also added that the Group is firmly committed to its Indian operations with its manufacturing plant in Chennai, a parts warehouse in Pune, a training centre in Gurgaon NCR and a well-developed dealer network across major metropolitans of the country.
