Bhagwant Mann Not Being Briefed Adequately By Legal Advisors: Punjab Governor

Date:

Chandigarh: The Punjab Governor on Saturday responded to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government and added that CM is not being guided properly.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit in a letter added that “After reading your statement in today’s newspaper, it appears to me perhaps you are too much angry”.

He further added that “I think your legal advisors are not briefing you adequately.”

He said that CM’s opinion on him might change after reading the rules and added “the provisions of Articles 167 and 168 of the Constitution, which I’m quoting for your ready reference. Article 167: Duties of the chief minister as respects the furnishing of information to the governor etc. It shall be the duty of the chief minister of each state (a) To communicate to the governor of the state all decisions of the council of ministers relating to the administration of the affairs of the state and proposals for legislation;(b) To furnish such information relating to the administration of the affairs of the state and proposals for legislation as the governor may call for; and (c) If the governor so requires, to submit for the consideration of the council of ministers any matter on which a decision has been taken by a minister but which has not been considered by the council.”

He further added the provisions of Article 168 “The constitution of the legislatures in states-(1) For every state, there shall be a legislature which shall consist of the governor, and (a) In states of two houses (b) In other states, one house.”

AAP sharpened its attacks against Governor Banwarilal Purohit, alleging that he is acting at the behest of the BJP.

AAP leader and state Cabinet Minister Aman Arora while talking with PTI added that Punjab government does not want any confrontation but asserted that it will be unacceptable to the ruling party if anyone tries to deprive them of exercising their constitutional rights.

Arora accused Purohit of cancelling the earlier special session scheduled for September 22 at the instance of the BJP-led Centre to make the party’s “Operation Lotus” a success.
