Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Turner expecting baby

Benedict Cumberbatch and his fiancee Sophie Turner confirmed on Wednesday that they are expecting their first child.

In a statement, the star’s publicist said: “I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child. They are both over the moon.”

The news of the couple’s first child comes three months after Cumberbatch announced their engagement via newspaper — proving he is an old-fashioned gentleman of excellent caliber.

The couple faced several questions about their upcoming wedding as Cumberbatch makes the award-season media rounds for his critically acclaimed role as Alan Turing in “The Imitation Game.” 

“I think I’ll be having a very private wedding,” he told Us Weekly back in November. No doubt becoming a father will also be a new and exciting chapter for the established actor and his wife to be. 

On Sunday, the actor is a frontrunner for the best actor in a drama award at the Golden Globes; his name is also likely to appear on the Bafta nominations list, announced on Friday morning.
