Bangkok Bound Flight Diverted To Delhi After Dispute Between A Couple Onboard

Date:

According to the sources quoted in media reports, headed to Bangkok, a Lufthansa flight, had to be diverted to Delhi earlier today, after a couple onboard got into a heated argument. This flight had taken off from Munich, however, the pilots had to divert the flight to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, after they alerted the air traffic control about the incident.

This incident involved a German man and his Thai wife. The two of them got into a rather ugly dispute. The fight got escalated to such an ugly level, that the wife sought the help of the pilot. She claimed that she was threatened by her husband’s behaviour.

Sources at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation quoted in media reports have said, ‘Soon after, the Lufthansa flight no LH772 sought permission to land at IGI. The flight had first sought permission to land at a Pakistan airport, but that request was denied. Once the flight landed, the husband was taken off the flight and handed over to airport security.

The sources further added that the husband has apologised to the authorities present at the airport. Meanwhile, the airport security officials are in contact with the German embassy about the concerned incident.

The Delhi police and CISF remain present at the location, deliberating on whether to transfer the man to Indian security agencies or send him back to Germany. Sources mentioned that the Lufthansa plane will depart for Thailand after its tires have cooled down.
