Badshah, ‘Bahubali’ Actor Testifies in Illegal IPL Streaming Case

Date:

Tamannaah Bhatia, renowned for her roles in films like ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Lust Stories 2’, has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell regarding her alleged promotion of the FairPlay betting app, a subsidiary of the Mahadev online gaming platform on April, 24. The cyber cell’s investigation stems from complaints about the illegal streaming of IPL matches on the FairPlay app. Bhatia is expected to appear before the cyber cell next week as a witness in the case.

This development follows the summoning of other notable figures like singer Badshah and the managers of actors Sanjay Dutt and Jacqueline Fernandez. The focus remains on the FairPlay app, which offers a range of sports and entertainment betting options, with cricket being a prominent feature.

The connection between FairPlay and the Mahadev betting app is under scrutiny, particularly regarding illegal betting activities across various live games such as cricket, poker, badminton, tennis, and football card games. Last year, actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, who had appeared in advertisements for the Mahadev app, were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning. The investigation into Mahadev app-linked money laundering has revealed the alleged involvement of high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh, with projected proceeds of crime estimated at around ₹6,000 crore.

Operated from Dubai by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, both hailing from Chhattisgarh’s Bhilai, the Mahadev app used various tactics to attract customers, including creating new websites and closed groups on chat apps, as well as running paid advertisements on social media platforms. The ED’s ongoing investigation continues to shed light on the complex web of illegal betting activities associated with these apps.
