Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan on Monday apologised in Lok Sabha for his sexist remarks against BJP lawmaker Rama Devi.
Khan said in Hindi, “Meri aisi koi bhavna Chair ke prati na thi na ho sakti hai. Mere bhashan aur acharan ko sara sadan janta hai, iske bawjood bhi Chair ko aisa lagta hai ki mere se koi galti hui hai toh main uski kshama chahta hun.”

He also said, “I have been an MLA for nine times, a minister several times, a Rajya Sabha member too. I was a parliamentary Affairs Minister too. I know legislative procedures,” he said, adding that, “However if my words hurt anyone, I hereby apologise.”

Meanwhile, the BJP leader Rama Devi said in Lok Sabha, “Azam Khan ji’s remark has hurt both women and men in India. He will not understand this. Inki aadat bigadi hui hai, zaroorat se zada bigadi hui hai. I have not come here to hear such comments.”
Moreover, Speaker OM Birla said members should be careful in uttering words and maintain decorum so that no such incident takes place in the future.
Debating on the triple talaq bill in the lower house of Parliament on July 25, the SP leader told Rama Devi, who was officiating the Lok Sabha proceedings, “Aap mujhe itni acchi lagti hain ki mera mann karta hai ki aap ki aankhon mein aankhein dale rahoon.”
After his remarks, a ruckus ensued in the Lok Sabha following which the members of the House have demanded an apology from the MP.
