Astana Business Forum: Kazakhstan open avenues for foreign investment

Nur Sultan: The 12th Astana Economic Forum (AEF), themed ‘Inspiring growth: people, cities, economies’ took place on in Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan and the first President of the Country, Nursultan Nazarbayev kicked off the Forum.

“Our regular meetings became a good tradition. I initiated convening such a forum in 2008. I really appreciate the great atmosphere maintained here. It became a regular event. And today it is the 12th forum. Every year we discuss the pressing global and regional issues, the strategic issues which will influence the development in the near future. Over the past years, we debated a wide range of issues, including G-Global projects, environmental problems, war on poverty, development of human capital, new energy. Last year we held the Global Challenges Summit. Two anti-crisis conferences were held as part of the forum with the support of the UN GA. The recommendations and conclusions debated there largely helped Kazakhstan timely address global challenges, successfully overcome difficulties, our thoughts. You know that our development model has proved its sustainability and efficiency despite all circumstances and forecasts,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

Kazakhstan open to foreign investment

Talkin to NewsMobile, the CEO of Kazakh invest Saparbek Tuyakbayev, said that Kazakhstan has got foreign investment worth $500 billion from countries like USA, France, Germany, Singapore, China.

The country is attracting investment in sectors like Agriculture, food industry, IT, education.

Talking about the investments from India, Tuyakbayev said, “the Indian market has a population of more than a billion and we (Kazakhstan) have big potential for business. Logistical and communication is a big issue between India and Kazakhstan.

About the Forum

The Astana Economic Forum was first held in 2008 at the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev. During the period of global changes in the world economy, there was a need to create an international platform where politicians, investors, leading economists and scientists could find effective solutions to global challenges of our time.

The first Astana Economic Forum was marked by the creation of the Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists. The club’s mission is to unite the efforts of economists and representatives of the public and international organizations to address economic development issues and promote the economic and social progress of the world community. The club has become the organizational core of the Forum.

It includes scientific organizations, prominent public and political figures, economists and practitioners from 70 countries. Members of this Association include the following Nobel laureates in economics: Robert Mandell, Robert Aumann, Finn Kydland, John Nash, Eric Maskin, Sir James Mirrlees, Roger Kornberg, and Edmund Phelps.
