New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) An Assistant Sub-Inspector ofTraffic Police has been arrested for accepting a bribe from atempo driver to let him off after he was caught for drunkendriving offence, police said today. Yatender Kumar was caught red handed while accepting Rs2000 out of Rs 3000 demanded by him from the tempo driver inSadar Bazar area, by Delhi Police’s Vigilance Branch teamyesterday, said RK Jha, DCP(Vigilance Branch). The tempo owner and the driver had lodged a complaintwith Vigilance Branch on August 19. The driver had allegedthat the traffic cop had asked him Rs 5,000 for not bookinghim under drunken driving offence. The driver further alleged that he had bargained and paidRs 1000 to the accused and had promised to pay the balance Rs2000. A Vigilance Branch team accompanied the complainant andarrested Yatender while accepting money from him, said theofficer. An FIR was registered on the statement of the complainantunder Prevention of Corruption Act provisions at VigilanceBranch police station. The accused has been arrested, he said.PTI VITRG
