Apologise to man who carried wife’s body: Cong to Odisha CM

New Delhi, Aug 25 (PTI) Congress today said Odisha ChiefMinister Navin Patnaik should apologise to a tribal man in hisstate who had to walk 10 km carrying his wife’s body on hisshoulder after failing to get a vehicle from a governmenthospital. Party’s chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala said theincident was such a "shocking" one that the chief ministerbesides ordering an inquiry, should personally apologise to theman. "Is this the Odisha that BJD promised for the people,where even basic dignity is denied to the people?" he wondered. Authorities today ordered a probe to ascertain thecircumstances which led to the incident. Locals found Majhi carrying his wife Amang Dei’s bodyalong with his 12-year-old daughter. The 42-year-old woman had died of TB at the districtheadquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna. Majhi has said despite all efforts, he failed to get anyhelp from hospital authorities and had no other alternativethan to wrap the body in a cloth and start walking to hisvillage Melghara in Rampur block, about 60 km fromBhawanipatna.
