Air India flight suffers cabin decompression; returns to Delhi

An Air India Delhi-Frankfurt flight suffered cabin decompression soon after taking off from Delhi on Wednesday afternoon and was forced to return.

The Boeing 787 took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 1.35 pm and cabin decompression was detected when it attained the altitude of 20,000 feet, officials said.

The pilot of the AI-121 turned back from Rajasthan air space and landed safely at Delhi airport at around 4 pm, they said.

The aircraft was grounded and another plane is being scheduled on Thursday to fly the passengers to Frankfurt, the officials said.

Air India flight AI121 operating from Delhi to Frankfurt today faced an issue of decompression and keeping the safety of the 220 passengers in mind, the flight had returned to Delhi. No passenger has suffered any injury. The flight will now operate with a change of aircraft at 0600hrs on 7th March from Delhi. Air India is committed to maintaining highest standards of passenger comfort and safety,” Air India said in a statement.
