3 youths die in car collision on Mandarmoni beach

Kolkata, Aug 21 (PTI) Three youths from the city died whentheir car collided head-on with another vehicle on theMandarmoni beach in East Midnapore district in the wee hoursof today, a senior police officer said. Shibraj Naskar, a resident of Beliaghata, Surya Dasguptaand Viabhav Rajneesh of Rajarhat, died on the spot when theircar collided head-on with another car on the Mandarmoni beachat around 5.30 AM, Additional SP (Rural) East Midnapore ZafarAjmal Kidwai told PTI. "The three youths died on the spot while two persons, whowere residents of Jharkhand, in the another car escaped withminor injuries," Kidwai said. Asked if the two vehicles were racing on the beach, whichwas banned, Kidwai said, "Because it was a head-on collisionit seems unlikely they were into any kind of racing. Still weare looking into the matter." There were not many people on the beach today like otherdays as it was a bit cloudy and those present there informedthe local police station. "Gas cutters were used to cut open the car, which wastwisted after the accident, to extricate the three bodies ofthe victims," he said, adding that the other two persons inanother car were rushed to the local hospital. According to another police officer, these three youthsbefriended the other two after reaching Mandarmoni yesterday. Incidentally, today’s mishap took place within threemonths after a man died in an accident this May. Siddhartha Roy Chowdhury of Khardah in North 24-Parganashad died when the SUV, in which he was travelling along withhis family members, turned turtle while running on the sameMandarmoni beach.
