3-year-old crushed under school van

New Delhi, Aug 23 (PTI) A three-and-a-half-year old boywas killed today when he was crushed by his school van whilethe driver was allegedly reversing the vehicle withoutrealising that the boy was standing behind it in Civil Linesarea of north Delhi. The victim, identified as Aviral was a student of JohnWesley School and he was dropped off by his school van around2 pm outside his house in Shri Ram Railway Colony today. "The driver didn’t check whether the boy was standingbehind and reversed the vehicle. The boy was crushed under thewheels and was rushed to Parmanand Hospital where he wasdeclared brought dead," deputy commissioner of police (North)Madhur Verma, said. There were other children in the van when the incidenthappened. The accused driver, Rahul, 28, ran away leaving the vanbut was caught later by the police. A case under sections 279 and 304(A) IPC has beenregistered at the Civil Lines police station and the accusedhas been arrested, added the officer. PTI SLB VITKUN
