14 Years Of 26/11 Mumbai Terror Attack

Date:

In the city of dreams, it was just another happening day, but everything changed in Mumbai that evening, and the hours that followed were terrible.

What happened on Nov 26, 2008, force us to take a look at terror unleashed on India from terrorists across the border.

November 26, 2008, 10 highly armed Pakistani terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) staged a coordinated attack on five places in Mumbai. The cold-blooded attacks took the lives of over 160 innocents and wounded over 300.

Thirteen years down the line, Pakistan is still living in denial, despite the fact that it is responsible for the deaths of countless innocent people.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan’s top investigative body, eventually revealed on November 11, 2020, that 11 terrorists engaged in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks were from their nation.

The updated ‘Book on Most Wanted/High Profile Terrorists’ released by Pakistan mentions over 1,200 names including the terrorist who purchased the boat for the 26/11 attack. However, it did not identify Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed, the attack’s mastermind, and wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

Despite not being on the list, Hafiz Saeed, an UN-designated terrorist, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Pakistani court on November 19 for two terror-related offences. Saeed was sentenced to two concurrent 5.5-year jail sentences, last year in February after being convicted of terror funding charges in two different trials.

Saeed is wanted in India for planning the terrorist attack on 26/11. The United States has declared him a “global terrorist” and has placed a $10 million reward on his head. Despite this, Pakistan did not show the spine to take strict action against Hafiz despite all this.

Saeed was arrested in Pakistan in July of 2019 on terror-financing allegations only after the country came under international pressure to come clean. When it comes to terrorists from Pakistan carrying out terror strikes in India, we can’t forget about Pulwama assault, which cost the lives of nearly 40 CRPF personnel.

However, the name of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar, who took responsibility for the attack, was also not mentioned in Pakistan’s updated ‘Book on Most Wanted/High Profile Terrorists’. Notably, Azhar was also designated as an international terrorist after the Pulwama attack in February 2019.

This was also unsurprising, considering Pakistan’s attitude toward terrorists and its history of fostering terrorism.

While India has been loud about Pakistan’s role in supporting terrorism by hiding and ‘nurturing’ terrorists, Pakistan has refused to react to its conscience. The fight against terrorism must go on until we avenge the fallen, let us not forget.
