During the ongoing nationwide lockdown because of Coronavirus, a real life experience of a 13-year-old girl has come in the forefront. The young girl carried her father – as a pillion rider – all the way to Darbhanga in Bihar from Gurugram.
Jyoti Kumari accomplished the journey of cycling around 1,100 km in six days. Her bravery and confidence at achieving this feat, especially during such trying times, is incredible.
The father-daughter duo started their journey on May 10 and reached their village on the night of May 15. She was lauded for her act by all the villagers.

The duo had fallen on tough times, after her father , who used to run an e-rickshaw on hire, fell victim to an accident. After the accident, came the lockdown, eventually leading to a decline in income for the family. Apart from this, the e-rickshaw proprietor was pressurising them to pay cash for the vehicle hired by them, as also their landlord, who was asking them to vacate the room, they lived in.
Even though the journey was difficult and full of roadblocks, which also included going without meals most times, Jyoti didn’t surrender.
