Sanjeev Mohanty takes over as CEO and MD at Jabong

Date:

Former Benetton India MD, Sanjeev Mohanty has taken charge of India’s leading online fashion retailer, Jabong as the new CEO and Managing Director. Mohanty assumed responsibilities on December 7, 2015, when he was officially inducted and introduced to all leadership members. Mohanty also addressed all Jabong employees at a town hall gathering on December 8 on the Jabong premises in Gurgaon, Haryana.

With 20 years of leadership experience, Mohanty comes with a wealth of knowledge and deep domain expertise in the fashion and retail industry. Earlier he has worked with fashion brands such as Benetton India, Madura Garments, SF Jeans and Levi Strauss. He holds a Master’s degree in Apparel Marketing & Merchandising, Fashion & Retail Marketing from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

He headed the Italian clothing brand Benetton to new heights in India and now Jabong has netted a winner in Sanjeev Mohanty as the new CEO for the ecommerce company to take on the rivals in the highly competitive e tail business. A go getter, Mohanty is expected to replicate the turnaround story like he did with Benetton in India.

Mohanty left Benetton after spearheading the Indian unit for 11 years, during which he made the Italian giant the largest international fashion brand in the country. Benetton India reported retail sales of about Rs 2,000 crore last fiscal.

Welcoming Mohanty, Romain Voog, CEO of Global Fashion Group (GFG), the parent company of Jabong, said, “We wholeheartedly welcome Sanjeev at the helm of Jabong. With immense experience in the fashion domain and under his able leadership and guidance, I am sure Jabong will scale new heights. I wish him all the best and much success at Jabong.”

Speaking at the occasion, Mohanty said, “I am deeply honoured and excited to join the most fashionable e-commerce brand in the market. I am looking forward to working closely with very talented teams in creating the most profitable fashion destination in India. My endeavor would be to ensure retailing of top fashion brands and invoking more loyal consumers for Jabong, by providing them a seamless and world-class shopping experience. Leading a digital company is definitely going to be a new experience for me and I am looking forward to apply my learnings to support further growth.”

Passing on the baton, Nils Chrestin, Interim CEO at Jabong and Group CFO of GFG, said, “I am delighted to welcome Sanjeev as our new CEO of the most fashionable e-tailer brand in India. We have a host of plans lined up for the New Year and with Sanjeev’s vision and successful track-record in the highly competitive fashion retail industry, we look forward to a successful year ahead.”

This festive season has been particularly rewarding for Jabong with tremendous response to its Diwali Super Style Fest, Durga Puja celebrations, and tie-ups with a host of youth-centric events such as NBA JAM and Jabong 5×5 football Turfwar. Top international brands and a host of amazing offers for the steadfast consumers indicate Jabong as the favourite online fashion brand in India. A Nielsen study for a leading business media that surveyed 7,200 consumers recently rated Jabong as the leading fashion retailer among India’s most trusted e-commerce brands in 2015.
