New Delhi: In a rare move, 14 Lok Sabha MPs faced suspension due to ‘unruly conduct,’ including prominent names like Manickam Tagore, Kanimozhi, PR Natrajan, V K Sreekandam, Benny Behanan, K Subbarayan, SR Prathiban, S Venkatesan, and Mohammed Javed are among others. Additionally, the Rajya Sabha saw the suspension of TMC MP Derek O’Brien.
Suspensions have been tied to the Opposition’s protests in Parliament, triggered by Wednesday’s security breach in Lok Sabha. The resulting disruptions halted proceedings in both Houses on Thursday, leading to multiple adjournments.
Fifteen Members of Parliament have been suspended, with the majority consisting of nine from the Congress party. Additionally, there are two each from the CPM and DMK, while the CPI and TMC each have one member suspended.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi reacting to the suspensions said, “Opposition MPs have been suspended because we want action on this incident of security breach. Is it not the responsibility of the Union Home Minister to come and answer on this? We want action against BJP MP Pratap Simha…”
