FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

With an open keyword search, the NM team traced an article by Live Law, dated November 07, 2023, mentioning about the recent verdict of the Supreme Court. The apex court clarifies (November 11, 2023) that its earlier directions against the use of barium and banned chemicals in firecrackers are applicable across the country, binding all states and not just the Delhi-National Capital Region. The bench also clarifies that there is no complete ban on firecrackers.

According to a report by NDTV, dated November 07, 2023, the Supreme Court has said that its 2021 order allowing only the use of green firecrackers will apply not just to Delhi-NCR but across the country. In 2021, the Supreme Court said that while there was no total ban on the use of firecrackers, those containing barium salts were prohibited.

The 2021 Supreme Court verdict mentions that crackers with reduced emissions (improved crackers) and green crackers will only be permitted to be manufactured and sold.

Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral post claiming the apex court has issued a “complete ban on firecrackers” in the country is misleading.
