Liquor Policy Case: AAP Leaders Condemn Sanjay Singh Arrest; Kejriwal Calls It “Completely Illegal”

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal strongly condemned the arrest of AAP MP Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate, labelling it “completely illegal”. Kejriwal asserted that this action reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nervousness and further alleged that more opposition leaders may face arrests in the lead-up to the elections.

CM Kejriwal took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to condemn the arrest. He wrote, “The arrest of Sanjay Singh is completely illegal. This shows Modi Ji’s nervousness. They will arrest many more opposition leaders till the elections.”

During a press conference held in the national capital, AAP leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, and Priyanka Kakka strongly criticised the BJP-led central government. They also alleged that the central government was using central agencies to target opposition leaders.

Bhardwaj labelled it an act of desperation, accusing the BJP of arresting opposition leaders because they anticipate losing the upcoming elections.

“Sanjay Singh was arrested without a shred of evidence or reason. This is nothing but an act of desperation. It only goes to show that Prime Minister Modi knows that he is losing the upcoming elections. It is the BJP’s desperation and fear of loss that are prompting it to unleash the central agencies on Opposition leaders,” Bhardwaj said.

Delhi minister and AAP leader Atishi described Singh’s arrest as a pre-planned script.
“It was a pre-planned script, that they (ED officials) would go to his residence and sit there for 8 hours and then arrest him. It shows the BJP’s desperation. PM also knows that whether it is the upcoming elections of 4 states or the elections of 2024, the people have decided to overthrow the BJP government,” Atishi said.

“This shows BJP’s desperation. BJP knows they will lose the upcoming state elections and Lok Sabha elections. Yesterday there were raids on senior journalists and today Sanjay Singh has been arrested. It is an attempt to silence the opposition. We will not be afraid and will continue to fight to save the Constitution of the country….INDIA alliance stands together and will continue to fight to save the Constitution,” she added.

Additionally, RJD MP Manoj Jha described Sanjay Singh’s arrest as a sign of the “dictatorship era”. He said, “It is not the ED that has arrested Sanjay Singh, he has been arrested by the unit of BJP that comprises ED-IT-CBI. Dark days have begun…In this era of dictatorship, jo dar gaya wo mar gaya. The dictators themselves are scared. This fear will be retaliated against soon.”

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. Singh was interrogated by the central agency for more than 10 hours concerning a money laundering case associated with the Delhi liquor policy.
