Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, Our team traced a Facebook post, dated March 14, 2021. The video matches exactly with the viral clip and the caption gives credits to @jayhideaway. Given that the video has been online since 2021, and the Morocco earthquake happened in September 2023, the viral clip cannot be linked with Morocco disaster.
Searching further. our team identified a TikTok account with the same name that posted this video on May 1, 2020.
Hideaway’s TikTok feed also shows a link to his OpenSea account — a marketplace for selling NFTs. The viral video is listed on the account for 35 ETH. His bio reads: “Original Apocalyptic Video Art,” indicating that the videos are made using VFX and other video-editing tools.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video, claiming that a mysterious lightning appeared in the night sky in Morocco causing the earthquake, is false.
