Fact Check: Old Image Falsely Linked To Donald Trump’s Arrest

Date:

On August 24, 2023, former US President Donald Trump, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, was put behind bars in Atlanta on a criminal case involving over a dozen felony charges related to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Against this backdrop, an image showing Trump approaching a group of applauding police officers is widely shared on social media linking to his recent custody.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Who else walks in to get booked, but yet has all the officers applauding him, this had to be a serious slap to Willis’s face, you will not see this on the news, God bless every one of these officers”

Here’s the link to the above post

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Doing a Reverse Image Search, our team identified an X account of ‘Team Trump’, dated June 10, 2023, carrying the same viral image. It confirms that the image is not related to his recent arrest.

On the same day, another photo captures Donald Trump posing with the applauding police officers. This entire interaction can be observed in a video posted by Trump’s senior adviser, Dan Scavino

Searching further, we found that after his interaction with the officers, Donald Trump proceeded to the convention where he delivered a speech.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old image is fictitiously shared as Donald Trump walking towards applauding officers after his arrest.
