New Delhi: In a bid to protect students from pursuing education from unaccredited and fake institutions, the University Grants Commission (UGC) launched a list of fake universities across the states. The list also includes names like Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, New Delhi.
The move is aimed to ensure that students and their parents verify the accreditation status of universities thoroughly before enrolling, safeguarding their academic and professional futures. The UGC has identified a concerning trend wherein several institutions are offering degrees that contravene the provisions outlined in the UGC Act.
A recent statement issued by UGC Secretary, Manish Joshi, underlined that degrees granted by such fraudulent universities will neither be recognized nor considered valid for higher education pursuits or employment opportunities. Since these institutions lack the authority to confer any form of degree.
UGC has compiled a comprehensive state-wise list of institutions that have been identified as fake universities. Here’s the list of fake institutions:
