New Delhi: The Balasore district of Odisha witnessed a horrific tragedy on Friday in which over 250 people died and 900 were injured.
The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, the freight train, and the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express were engaged in a fatal collision.
The tragic train incident in Balasore has been labelled as one of the deadliest train disasters in history. Here is a list of some of the most horrific train crashes that have happened in India over the past ten years.
Gorakhdham Express-2014:
On May 26, 2014, a fatal incident occurred close to Khalilabad station in the Sant Kabir Nagar neighbourhood of Uttar Pradesh. A stationary goods train and the Gorakhdham Express collided as they were travelling towards Gorakhpur, which had disastrous consequences. 25 people lost their lives in the collision, while more than 50 more were hurt.
Indore–Patna Express 2016:
On November 20, 2016, a terrible incident occurred in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, causing tragedy. At around 3:10 am, a passenger train bound for Patna from Indore derailed close to Pukhrayan in Kanpur. Over 200 people were injured, and 146 people died as a result of the disaster.
Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express 2017:
The Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express had a tragic derailment on August 19, which resulted in a horrific tragedy that took place in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, close to Khatauli, the tragedy happened at 5:45 o’clock. There was a significant loss of life as 14 of the train’s 23 coaches derailed. 23 people passed away, while close to 60 others sustained injuries.
Hirakhand Express 2017:
The Hirakhand Express 18448 was tragically derailed on January 21, 2017, and a terrible occurrence took place in southern Andhra Pradesh. The passenger train derailed close to the village of Kuneru in Vizianagaram while it was travelling from Jagdalpur to Bhubaneswar. 41 people tragically perished as a result of numerous coaches derailing, taking a terrible toll.
Kaifiyat Express 2017:
The Delhi-bound Kaifiyat Express was involved in a severe incident on August 23, 2017, close to Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh. Nine train coaches derailed as a result of the tragic collision between the train and a dump truck on the railway track. At least 70 people were injured as a result of the collision’s impact.
Amritsar 2018:
In a terrible occurrence, a train cruelly drove through a crowd that had gathered on the tracks during the Dussehra celebrations in Amritsar. At least 59 people died in the tragic catastrophe, while 72 others sustained injuries.
