Rains Trigger Landslides In Parts Of Himachal; Yellow Alert Issued

Shimla: Several areas of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, experienced moderate to severe rainfall, lightning, and thunderstorms on Thursday, causing landslides that disrupted the flow of traffic and the delivery of electricity throughout the impacted districts.

Numerous highways have been closed during the past few days as a result of bad weather; a total of 19 roads had to be closed. Among these, Sirmaur saw up to 11 road closures, the most of any location. Additionally, three roads were shut down in Kullu, while two routes were shut down each in Chamba and Shimla. One road in Kangra was impacted.

In addition, 171 transformers around the region experienced malfunctions as a result of the extreme weather.

The state saw widespread rainfall, which caused different regions to experience differing degrees of precipitation.

The area with the most rainfall, Dharampur, measured 67 mm. Bijahi, Kumarsain, and Gaggal were not far behind, each receiving 60 mm of rain. Sundernagar recorded 56 mm of rainfall, compared to 57 mm at Narkanda. Kotkhai, Kasauli, and Solan each received 48 mm, while Una received 49 mm. While Arki and Kheri each received 45 mm, Tissa received 46 mm. Jubbarhatti reported 41 mm, while Guler measured 42.6 mm. Rainfall totals in Gohar and Pandoh were 40 mm each, 38 mm in Bilaspur, and 36 mm in Shimla.

The temperature significantly changed as a result of the severe weather.
A “yellow” warning has been issued by the local meteorological centre for isolated locations, denoting the potential for thunderstorms and lightning from May 26 to 28.

In addition, the prediction is for widespread rain in the lower regions on Friday, then isolated rain and thunderstorms in the lower and mid hills from May 27 to 29. Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this period of anticipated weather activity.
