In February 2022, the Karnataka government issued a directive prohibiting clothing deemed to “disrupt equality, integrity, and public order in educational institutions”. Following this order, a group of girls from the Muslim community filed petitions arguing that they had the right to wear Hijabs in classrooms. However, their pleas were dismissed by the Karnataka High Court on March 15, 2022. Subsequently, the Supreme Court heard the case and provided a split verdict, leading to the matter being referred to a larger bench for further consideration.
Against this backdrop, a video showing several women wearing burqas exiting a gate while being surrounded by a vast crowd is widely shared on social media, claiming that after Congress’s Karnataka win, the Hijab ban has been lifted in educational institutions.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Congress party one more achievement. Burka (Hijaab) allowed in all colleges in Karnataka from today”

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Yandex Reverse Image Search, we identified an Instagram handle carrying the same viral video, dated February 9, 2022, with a caption: “Alhamdulillah finally wearing hijab in the exam hall Hazrat Sumayya entered tigress descendants”.
We found the same video uploaded by several social media users in February 2022. This clearly means that the video is old and cannot be an aftermath of Karnataka poll results.
Even with a keyword search, we could not find any information or news reports available to confirm that the Hijab ban has been reversed in Karnataka. The issue is reported to be still pending in the Supreme Court, and awaiting further resolution.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video is falsely shared as the Hijab ban has been lifted in Karnataka institutions.
