US-India Diplomatic Ties Strengthened In First 4 Months Of 2023: Report

Date:

Washington: As India enters the golden era of development and charts a new global trajectory, India-US bilateral relations are getting stronger. A testament to the strengthened diplomatic and economic ties between Washington and New Delhi is the latest report published in Comparative Connections, a triannual e-Journal of bilateral relations in the Indo-Pacific.

An article published in the journal on the bilateral ties of the two nations establishes that the US-India partnership has taken an upward curve in the past few years. The article elaborates that the same has been achieved by the smooth running and systematic efforts made by the duo.

The authors of the research, Akhil Ramesh and Micheal Rubin, concluded that the ties between both nations have expanded in the past four months of the ongoing fiscal. As per the research, under the current diplomatic scenario, India and US have managed to stitch closer ties between January and April 2023.

“Defence, technology and economic cooperation grew significantly in scope. The Biden administration’s democracy summit, Quad meetings, and bilateral meetings between various divisions and departments of the US and Indian governments show there will be no lack of engagement at the highest levels of government,” the authors said at an event.

“Supplementing the high-level cooperation, people-to-people ties will witness a revived enthusiasm thanks to Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s work to ease the visa backlog in consulates in India. This will allow more Indian students and professionals to travel to the US and back with ease,” they added.

The growing affinity between the two nations can also be administered by the positive comments made by the top leadership of both countries. Regular interactions and coordination among the duo on various diplomatic affairs also appear as prominent indicators.

Recently, in a speech at the Brookings Institution, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan outlined the administration’s agenda of creating new economic alliances while avoiding the risk of isolating traditional allies. This approach, which intersects trade policy and national security, has garnered support from countries like India, the report outlined.

It is also important to note that during a meeting between President Biden and PM Modi, they emphasized deepening the Major Defense Partnership, promoting economic engagement, and collaborating on global health and critical technologies. Both leaders also aimed to boost manufacturing in their economies, with the US seeking to regain its leadership in sectors like semiconductor manufacturing and critical minerals processing.

With New Delhi recording significant achievements in diverse sectors, its affinity with Washington is having a significant impact on the current geopolitical scenario.
