Fact Check: Old Video Of Siddaramaiah’s Lookalike Dancing To A Kannada Song Goes Viral With False Claims

Date:

After the Congress’ triumph in the Karnataka Assembly elections, a video is widely shared on social media. The 38-second clip supposedly shows Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, engaging in a lively dance performance accompanied by a popular Kannada song. Several individuals can be seen surrounding him, with some applauding and others capturing the dance on their mobile devices.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Siddaramaiah Energetic Dance. Congress continues its winning streak in Karnataka. #karnatakaassemblyelection2023”

Here’s the link to the post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Reverse Image Search, we traced a news report, dated April 4, 2018, carrying the same viral video with the caption: “Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s lookalike of ‘Alladsu-Alladsu’ fame joins Congress”.

According to a news report by Banglore Mirror, dated March 14, 2018, “A video of a person resembling Chief Minister Siddaramaiah dancing to the tunes of ‘Alladsu Alladsu’ from the movie Chowka had gone viral recently… it was not the CM but a 55-year-old farmer Chanmaayi Gowda from Mysuru, who was dancing at a cultural programme”.

We also found a video interview featuring Chanmaayi Gowda on the Asianet Suvarna News YouTube channel, uploaded on March 1, 2018. During the interview, Chanmaayi Gowda mentioned his participation in a cultural programme that took place as part of an agricultural workshop in Kaggalipura, Mysuru, and confirmed that he had danced during the event, which aligns with the content of the viral video.

Thus, it is evident that an old video of Siddaramaiah’s lookalike dancing to a Kannada song is shared with false claims.
