Fact Check: Image of Bangladesh Fictitiously Shared As ‘Revamped’ Boulevard Road In Srinagar, India

Date:

An image is widely shared on social media claiming to depict a renovated Boulevard Road in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of the two-day G20 Summit which started from May 22.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Kashmir is witnessing amazing transformation! This pic is not of Europe but the Boulevard Road in Srinagar… a magnificent makeover to welcome delegates from across the world for the #G20Kashmir summit. #GlobalKashmir #KashmirWithG20India #ModiHaiToMumkinHai”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Doing a simple Reverse Image Search, we found that the viral image was originally posted on a Facebook page ‘Jhautola Patuakhali’, dated February 6, 2023. Jhautola Patuakhali is a park located in Patuakhali, Bangladesh.

We also found a similar image uploaded on Google Maps in February stating that it is Jhautola Patuakhali in Bangladesh. There are several similarities between the viral image and Google Maps image.

We found a recent video on YouTube recorded from inside a moving car and showcased the Boulevard Road in Srinagar, J-K. But the visuals from the video and the viral image, somehow, don’t match.

Upon comparing the image shared by Siasat Daily with the viral image, it was found that they showed no similarities. The image shared by Siasat Daily depicted Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrolling on Srinagar’s Boulevard Road as part of the security arrangements ahead of the G20 Summit.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an image of a park in Bangladesh is falsely shared as the ‘revamped’ Boulevard Road in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
