New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by a huge margin of 77 runs to qualify for the playoffs for the 12th time. This was CSK’s biggest win this year.
CSK, after winning the toss, chose to bat first and put up a big total of 223 while losing only three wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The opening duo of Rituraj Gaikwad and Devon Conway once again stood up for their team. While Gaikwad scored 79 runs off 50 balls, Conway was the highest run scorer on the team with 87 runs off 52 balls.
Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja also played short but effective innings to help their team qualify.
The Delhi Capitals, who were looking to end their season on a high before their crowd could do much with the ball, only managed to get three wickets. Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakaria, and Anrich Nortje each got one wicket.
Delhi continued their poor form with the bat too; they only managed to score 146 runs in twenty overs while losing nine wickets. David Warner played a captain’s inning of 86 runs but could not take his team through as no one else contributed with the bat.
Chennai, who had batted beautifully to put on 224, continued their form with a ball too deep. Chahar was the highest wicket-taker in the match, taking three wickets and only giving away 22 runs in his spell. Maheesh Teekshana and Matheesha Pathirana each took two wickets, while Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja ended up taking one wicket each.
The Chennai Super Kings currently stand second on the points table with 17 points, while the Capitals, who were already eliminated from the playoff race, stand in ninth place with only 10 points. Delhi had only won five of their 14 matches.
